A patch repository sounds like a great idea. As far as thunder
goes, the best simulation I ever achieved came from a patch
by John Simonton. Instead of using a noise source, tune several
(I used three) VCOs to a subsonic range running the mix into a VCA
controlled by an ADSR, and make sure each VCO
is detuned from the others. The beat frequencies actually produce
a very convincing low rumble. Of course, it helps to have a few
18 inch Cerwin-Vega's...
