Source of good VCA chips

I have the data sheet.
But something was strange with these bugs.
I think due to reduced pincount (DIL8) they had
some limitations, was it strange input bias needs or
something. However, I remember the two vca on the chip beeing
different, one could use only one of them and thus
avoid the difficulties.
