Interesting thought, but any valve preamp that 'enhances' the sound by
adding harmonics is not a very good preamp. It is important (for sake of
our purposes) that we dispell the notion that tubes are inherently
euphonic. A more correct approach would be to agree that when operated for
intended distortion, tubes are much more inherently musical than SS devices.
Remember these things:
1) If they say their tube amp is 'sweet' they mean a signle-ended section
producing even-order harmonics
2) If they it has that 'all-out tube sound', they mean it's a push-pull
section (likely AB1) producing odd-order distortion.
I guess what I'm getting at is: Don't believe the hype! (both can't be
right) Tubes can be sweet, agressive or quite transparent; take your pick.
