Again VCO's and exp. converters!

Hi!

I just finished my first VCO on a protoboard and I actually works :)))! It is really a prototype because I haven't decided, which IC I will use for exp. converter. I'm thinking of CA3046 (currently CA3086) with heater, because this is cheap solution. The second option would be LM394/MAT-02. How much is the second design better (for exp. conv)? I've seen that heated CA3046 VCO leave out tempco's. What about heated LM394 (Rick Jensen's design)? Any recommendations will be appreciated! Anyone compared the designs side by side? I would like to choose the most stable design before I begin to work on a PCB.
The second question is: what exactly does the SOFT SYNC option? Theoretical explanation wanted, not just that it provides more complex waveforms that single oscillator and that it requires two of them (osc's).

Control the voltage!
