Did I miss the final answer?  It would be very interesting to know, why
the famous circuit won't work after above mentioned schematic. Cause
I'm going to build one in the next time.

Does it make a difference if I take other small signal transistors ? I
mean I've got a 1000 box of BC549C.  Will swapping transistor types give
any audible difference ?
