VCO chips again

Do any of you guys know if there is a difference between the XR8038M
produced by Exar and the ICL8038AM produced by Harris?  Is one of these
better suited for use with synth's?  Is there no difference at all?  I
seem to remember several posts on the difficulties of using an 8038 as a
VCO.

Also, has anyone tried using Exar's XR2206M VCO function generator?
