Are you dead-set on the Reticon chip? The Panasonic chips are better (so
I'm told--the specs certainly look more impressive) and readily available
from Digi-Key.
You'll also probably need compansion for noise reduction. Thomas Henry's
new book on the NE570 looks pretty interesting--a good start at least. It's
at the Midwesst Analog Products site (never have that URL).
