I've been looking for a SC-01 based speech module for a while now. Do you
know where I can get one? Back in the old times, I had a neat little SC-01
speech synth for my VIC-20 called (sorry) The SpeakEasy. Does anyone
remember this very limited production unit and it's tiny little icon-based
phoneme editor software? My version was supplied on CASSETTE!

My interest in the SC-01 was revived about 7 or 8 years ago, when I saw Dr.
Stephen Hawking address a group at the U of M. The speech production
mechanism in his chair was obviously a phoneme based editor with an SC-01
output. Totally freaked me out. And yes, he made several Dalek/Davros jokes.

I'd also like to find a speech module based on the 'speak-and-spell'
chips. BTW: am I the only one who couldn't understand those s&s things for
a damn? Great voice o' the computer but intelligibility?? I'm glad Dr.
Hawking didn't sound like one of those...

Thanks for all the replies. The details of the Bell Labs kit are now
destined for future website posting. The book is really great - does anyone
have a scannable (read: well-broken bindings) copy?
