Also for audio I use seldom(!) the log. VCAs. Especially with short decay and
long release the sound of a linear VCA comes closer to my expectation of
sound than an logarithmic.

So you should use linear VCAs al the way, because you can realize the log
characteritics more easy (without trimming!) on the digital side.
btw.: are your digital envelopes and LFOs as fast as analogue ones?
