NewBie Question: Trigger-To-MIDI DIY?

You can use a couple of already existing things to do this. Often they
can be picked up quite cheaply second hand. Casio made a 9 input trigger
to MIDI box which a friend of mine got for like $70 off a friend. Cheap
looking gray plastic thing with sliders on the front for sensitivity. It
has four scenes where you can program in which notes it sends per input.
Also the Alesis D4 drum module will do the same (and has some sounds
too) but is more expensive.
As for DIY I dunno - there was an e510 keyboard chip around once but I
never knew where to get it.....
