May be either an MPU-IPC or MPU-IMC:
the IPC is a midi interface for standard PC's, the IMC is an IBM
MicroChannel variation of the same. However, there is a computer card which
is doing all the work - you apparently have just the breakout box.

PS - have just signed on to this mailing list. Is it customary to "reply
to all" (original sender AND synth-diy), or just reply to the list? While
it is redundant to do so, is there some threading mechanism for a mailing
list in the same way as a USENET newsgroup? Just curious.
