Natural Resonant Systems

A friend showed me a video taping of the Leno show in which he had
"The Blue Men Band" as guests. They had, what I would characterize
as, a "Drumbone". It was several pieces of drainage size PVC pipe
(like 5 or 6 inches in diameter) that they connected in a telescoping
manner so that the length of the tubing could be changed just like a
slide trombone. One of the Blue Men (It looked like they all wore
skin tight electric blue latex which covered their faces) struck one
end of the tube system with mallets and the other was responsible for
changing the length of the tubing in proper time. Very well done.
The drumming was actually the bass part.

Perhaps this could be used in a synth system. The "drummer" could be
replaced by noise pulses injected at one end by a speaker. The
musician could then play tunes by adjusting the length of the tubing.

Needless to say, I remain intrigued and fascinated.
