Making a Yamaha PSR-19 into something

yeah, cheap yamaha synths don't seem to be good for nuthin.
i have a psr-6 which is probably an even bigger piece of crap than
yours. i'm planning on converting it into a cv device to control an
external modular synth. it seems like kind of a laborious and boring
project -just replacing diodes with resistors and chaining them
together, but i'm poor and have no decent keyboard to call my own.
if you want to get fancier, you could make a few small circuits to make
a stand-alone synth. check out the following page for ideas:

this guy builds an instrument almost from scratch. but you could cover
up the ugly original yamaha panel with something else and just add a few
modules. he also details the keyboard conversion.
if you're set on sampling, maybe try this ht8950 sampler/modulator chip
that people are talking about. i'm going to pick one up just 'cause it
sounds like something a neophyte like me could handle.
cheers
