The Stamp will do a direct 8bit conversion of resistance value on a pin.
It should be possible to produce any frequency/volume function out of
the chip that can be made into a resistance change as long as 256
discrete values are enough for you. You might use LDR's for the
resistors and make a single chip light activated "Theremin" out of one
of these.

The "Stamp" is specific to MicroChips PIC parts, I think.
