little computer noise maker device

I am interested in building a little hand held device to generate
little sci-fi and computer sounds that are adjustable.  Does anyone
have any ideas or know of any kits I could combine. It doesn't have to
be stable or accurate in pitch because it will be used only for making
noises. The kind of noises I am thinking of are similar to those
little noises in "Pocket Calculater" by Kraftwerk, but not just
limited to those.  Perhaps I could use a cheap toy keyboard chip in
combination with some other kits or projects or somthing on this line.
Does anyone know of any places on the web with ideas for things such
as this? Any suggestions are welcome.
