I've seen a similar thing at this years Frankfurt Music Instrument Fair.
I think it was a swedish or swiss company.
A belt drive (record player) twisted a unsymmetrical plastic
horn, an adjustable metal counterweight at the other side ensured
balanced action. The speaker was fixed in the same way as shown above,
and the plastic horn was bent to a 90 deg angle. The whole aparatus
was mounted in a big 3units 19" chasis (like for power amps), and a little
tube amp, a microphone and mic preamp was also included.
Of course only suitable for mid-high frequency range, the speaker
had about 10cm diameter.
The bass cabinet was conventional and very large.
