Yes, they are. However, there are some advantages to using a standard size for
this. Even without automatic insertion equipment, if you put the holes for
jumper wires on the same spacing as 1/4W resistors. I use a lead bender for all
resistors, and once you go to this, putting either jumpers or the zero ohm
resistors accurately (and quickly) into position. Of course, a cut resistor lead
bends to the same spacing just as easily. The zero ohms are handy, and pretty
cheap, about $0.01 each.
