I have one. To get an idea of the sound on guitar, listen
to Hendrix, ala Purple Haze, the sound is very similar to
the Octavia. I think the 2nd harmonic is more pronounced
on the green ringer. Besides the second harmonic you get
some distortion.

It's definitely worth building for guitar, I don't know
how useful it would be for a synth. I used it in 
conjunction with feedback guitar and lots of distortion.
While the guitar feeds back, switching the unit in and out
produces changes in the guitar feedback characteristics.
It is close enough in sound to be a poor mans Octavia.
I thought this until I got an Octavia, they play very 
differently.
