Well, I think I realized that when I discovered :-
1) I couldn't play (dispite years of practice)
2) I didn't want to practice (probably due to above)
3) I prefered building instruments to playing them.

That was about seventeen years ago. I still play with my synth and build
more for it, but I consider the keyboard "optional" :)
