What is 'quality'?

I would not buy promises. I'm sure he don't intend to fool anybody, but things
can happen. Suppose the planned modules never come out. Or if they start to be
delayed, seemingly forever. What do you do then? Then you're stuck with an
incomplete synth, that has cost quite some money.
I would wait and see, until all modules are available, before parting with
cash. Or preferrably choose something that is available today.

I for one Paul am very glad that your modules kits are not $50. I am a
MOTM subscriber. This will be my one and only modular synth. One of the
reasons I choose this path is for the quality and to learn from the
construction. I can understand why some people might buy on price. I have
done that. I have a PAiA tube preamp. Why did I spend $100 for a tube
preamp when I could have spent $1000 for quality? Cause I wanted the
distortion to make my organ patches sound like Jon Lord. Not cause I
wanted the cleanest sound out there.

Paul, you keep right on doing all the things you mentioned that will make
your MOTM products a pleasure to build, own and make music with. Those who
want top quality (like me) will buy them. Those who don't wont. That's
the democratic way. I got a whole stack of PAiA 4700 modules here I bought
for $100. (an attempt to learn something before I jumped into MOTM) No
offense intended, but I am betting down the road my MOTM rack will be worth
more than what I paid for it, not less (But I'll never sell it so who
cares).

And then there is the whole concept of MOTM. What a great way to spread
out the cost of such a significant investment. And, something new to build
every month. Heck, even my WIFE is excited.

Want somethigng cheaper. Go buy it. BUT, I hope this answers the original
question... Why would someone pay more??? Because I WANT to. :)
