New process for PC Boards

The November 1997 issue of Electronics Now magazine has an article on a new
(?) method of making PC Boards. It uses sheets of 1 mil copper foil.
Summarizing the article, you would print the pattern onto the foil using
software and a laser printer, then etch the foil using Sodium Persulphate.
When done, you have the copper traces on a plastic backing. You then glue,
using spray adhesive, the copper onto a pre-drilled perf board and presto,
you have a printed circuit board!

Seems that the company that makes the copper foil used to only sell it to
businesses in 24 inch x 100 foot rolls, but is now offering it in 8.5 inch
x 11 inch sizes in small quantities. Prices would probably be comparable
to pre-sensitized boards.

Has anyone ever tried a method like this???
