Yes I have done exactly that with the ASM-1 filter.  Chamberlains circuit fit quite well into the ASM-1 circuit.  It's no mystery why it did because I believe the circuits in that chapter were all from Electronotes which is what the ASM-1 filter is from too.  I haven't refined it much but I was able to bench test the VCQ circuit to my satisfaction that I could build it on a better circuit board later.

uses three 3080s and four TL084 stages.....also wonder how 
similar it is to the filter section of the Electroharmonix
 env follower filter just released.....

actually i don't see much reference to the chamberlin book,
or its 2nd ed, but despite the d*gital content there are 
eminently practical ckts there
