I don't know what the moral of this story is, but since I just did this
experiment last night, and this topic came up...
I compared a Nord (set to 1 voice saw, 24db filter, very slow attack/decay)
to my modular (ARF VCO saw, SSM2044 VCF, same attack/decay rates). It was
obvious that the Nord was different, and my wife (in a blind taste test)
found Wally to be more "warm", but the Nord did surprisingly well! You could
chalk the major sound differences up to VCF designs, with the Nord being
a bit more brittle.
