Wierd old BBC Micro-based system.....

OK...I know it's a bit off topic, but I'm on the point of aquiring an 
old BBC Micro based music synth system...I'm not sure about much of it 
except it used a language called AMPEL or AMPLE or similar for writing 
music and some sort of early digital synthesis method for making 
sounds. Beyond that I know nothing until it arrives...anybody know 
anything that fits the bill? Any info helpful..
