I usually get some pc board and cut it with the dremel after scoring 
a pattern on it.  This keeps projects concise (and modular) and has 
great advantages like less inter-lead capacitance than other methods. 
And nothing can compare to the value!  I usually try to confine these 
boards to 8 pin DIPs since its a real difficulty to make big pads for 
things like 13700's.
