CEM circuit schematics, anyone?

Greetings,
Thanks to all those who helped me in my quest for the perfect
transformer; I ended up buying a 36v, 2.8amp transformer which I suspect
will give me more than enough power to tap off +/-15, 12 and 5 volts for
whatever I end up constructing.
I'm currently seeking specific circuit utilizing various CEM chips; so
far it seems that Barry Klein's book "Electronic Music Circuits" is the
only real source (aside from maybe ordering all the old Electronotes
from Bernie Hutchins). I have found a couple of schematics on the web
which use the nearly impossible to get 3340 VCO. However, aside from
the data sheets (which are hard for me to fully understand and seem
obtuse), I can't find any info. on certain chips, particularly the 3374
(dual VCO), 3350 (dual filter), and the 3396 (synth on a chip). I've
read in the old synth archives that the 3396 is not well-suited for
analog modules. Does it have to be microprocessor controlled? And
what's that temperature compensation all about on the 3374? I'm not
adverse to experimenting, but at this point I'd just be shooting in the
dark.
Another question: Should I use 1/8" (old style synths) or 1/4" (newer
synth style?) patch cords? I'm leaning towards the 1/8" because they're
cheaper and less bulky.
thanks,
Jeff
