Power supplies: are they just available to buy?

ACtually, Paul, in my post i was referring to the ones that you could PCB mount
internally into a unit. They are usually a little cheaper because you dont need
to pay extra for the wall cord and the cord from the box to the unit, but they
are nearly identical to the ones you speak of, just that you have to solder
these into the unit and mount them. I called one of my fellow employees about
the switching deal, and he informed me that they are linear supplies. He stated
that they are basically the innards of a wall/cord wart and that we use them
because they are cheaper to buy. So, i guess it depends on if you want to have
it external (little more expensive but saves you some work) or internal
(cheaper, but you have to do a little soldering and it makes the unit heavier)
The units i speak of are 35 dollars for +- 15V @1.5 amps. Supposedly, they are
really clean voltage too...
