Power supplies: are they just available to buy?

Yes, there IS quite a few companies that make what is called a solid power
supply. It is just a black box, with an input to the wall voltage and outputs
for the corresponding voltages such as +-15 volts... The only problem with them
is that i THINK they are switching power supplies, but perhaps Paul could
elaborate on this. I have used a good many of these at where i work to set up
voltages for data collection to send power to switches and such. Analog Devices
makes a bunch of them, as does Sola Solids. They are a little pricey (about
35-40 dollars, depending on the current sourcing) but they make my life much
easier. I personally have never tried to use them to source a frequency
dependent circuit such as an analog synth vco, so i cant comment on the voltage
stability of these units, but they interest me for use in synths also.
