Similar thing is an "LED scope" - basically 2 multiband LED VU meters, but
one is mounted "upside down" under the normal meter. The top meter runs off
of a half-wave rectified version of the signal, the upside down one runs
off of an inverted <<and then>> HWR version. Makes a fun bouncing effect
when run with a sinewave LFO, and a good general purpose tool for figuring
out what's going on with CV's or audio signals...
Then again, you could get the same effect by just mounting a stock analog
voltmeter, but it's harder to mount than a few LEDs, and it doesn't look as
cool to "the man on the street" :)
