Paul,

How about offering the kits with or without panels (AKA PAiA)?  This would
allow those that want to use a different form factor to use their own panel
structure and would also leave the jack issue up to the builder.  Instead
of rack mount only, one could use 2-3" wide multiples in an appropriate
height.  Also please be flexible in power connections!

Those that wanted to purchase panels/chassis could and those that want to
save $$ or use their own form factor could do that as well.  I for one
would be interested in boards & parts, but not panels as I have a 2"x9"
panel size in use.

Finally, please make everything possible VCable!!!!!

Just my thoughts!
