That's the answer I was looking for. I did not know this, but it makes
sense based on the situation.
The module in question is in the bottom row of modules - right in the
middle. There's a gap between
the bottom row and side of the case. I noticed that when I put my hand
there, the interference went down.
I couldn't figure out why.

Hmmmm, sheilding this case is going to be more difficult than I thought.
Here I was thinking that any shielding would help, but it seems that
incomplete shielding is worse
than no shielding at all.

ps.
The lifted ground was a special circumstance just for the studio I was in.
It's in an old building and it seems that most of the outlets are 3-prong
with the third pin left unconnected or tied to neutral.
