two quickies...

why is there so much discussion about neon light oscillators. It is
just a classic relaxation oscillator that you can find in some old
audio scopes from say the 40's. How is it so different than
everybodies favorite, the 555. It too is a super fancified
relaxation oscillator and has probably also seen much use with a
constant current source for sweep generation

for ripple on power supplies, i like two regulator stages for my
stuff. I have not built it yet but I think it will be great. First
a handmade regulator for +/- 24 that has the big filter caps, etc.
This is outboard to the synth module. On the synth module small
filter caps (couple hundred uF or so) and then 7818/7918. this keeps
big powerline currents out of the synth box and has better ripple
reject anyway. I do acknowledge the existence of 7824/7924, but i
will be using a handmade first regulator as the synth should draw
about 7 amps off it .
