I didn't say that there is a point against a tempco. Of course I
have considered that if you add a trimpot you could precisely get
the desired temperature compensation.
But the 3500ppm tempcos are hard to get. (At least in this part of the world.)
Ok, maybe the commonly available NTC resistors are an option, but these are
bulky and you still have to thermaly match them close to the expo. transistors.
(Of course you would have to replace the other resistor in the divider then
not the one thats usually the tempco)
The ordinary (read: cheap) PTCs are NO option, anyone who has seen a
datasheet about them knows what I mean...;-)
Cost doesn't really matter. I don't care about one dollar (or 1 deutschmark)
more or less.
And I have been using my VCOs without any compensation so far and have
been happy with it.
