Why not use pcb mount pots, and a large 2sided pcb?  Lots of drilling, 
yes, but think of all the wire you'd save.  Mouser has good cheap pcb 
mount pots for less than $1.

BTW, went to a Matsushita pcb factory last week, where they make the pcb 
stock.  Wore a bunny suit & went into a room where huge rolls of 
fiberglass cloth were dipped in giant vats of resin, then up & back down a 4 
storie roller to dry, then off for cutting, bonding of copper, etc.
