But I already have a Mackie! :-)
The first module already has a mic pre in it, right? Actually, what could
be really cool would be to make
a VC mixer with VC panning/crossfading. You could "mackie" it out with tone
control and such, and make
it an ideal output stage, in addition to its use as a VCA and programmable
panner. Give it two channels
of VC-able level/pan and a normalled tone control connection (send/return).
If the customer wants four
channels, they can buy two modules.
It would be immediately useful for tone control and auto-panning/mixing, and
would really complement the
final "synth" as a flexible output stage. For that, I'd also vote for a
headphone out. Stereo, naturally. :-)
Here's another idea - build an envelope follower into it! Sure, just an
extra out jack, calibrated to the
same range as the VCA in the module. That way, you could use it for
external control of a signal level,or
(with inverting) as a simple ducker. I'd like an envelope follower more
than a metronome or tuner.
I just realized that this gets far away from your "easy to build"
requirement, but I don't think it would be
much worse than the original proposal.
