Hi all,
I'm still here (I didn't feel quite safe mixing acid and base). I've had
a lot of propsals of how to make nice looking panels. I have tried most
of them and I'm not quite satisfied with any:
Dry transfer letters on alu:
pros: Cheap and easy available. Great for small batches.
cons: Can be difficult to attach (even when very careful, sometimes some
of the letter refuses to attach). Not very good for making large
quantities of panels. Sensitive to scrathes.
Transfer letters on painted alu (D.Higdon):
pros and cons: same as above, but you get to colour the panel.
Stickers:
pros: Very easy to make. Print your artwork directly to sticker and
attach to panel in seconds. Large quantities is no problem. Also its
very easy to correct mistakes or make changes if you need another output
on your panel.
cons: (D.Halliday) ... If you use small pieces for just the labels,
there is enough adhesive
present on the cut edges that each label will get a small dark frame in
a few months.
Also, these methods coats ALL of the panel (laquer, paint or sticker). I
would very much like to have the raw (?!) alu, and a tough, scratch
proof lettering. I've done a lot of panels with the above mentioned
methods, but they all seem to degrade with use.
