I think I have found a nice way out of all this etching...
There's a stuff officially called something like amfopol (can't remember).
It isn't just a transparent plastic A4 sized sticker sheet with a nice
matt surface (which makes the alu on the panel a bit white), but you can
cram this in your laser printer and print straight on it! This is
originally designed for engineers, who use it for those neat stickers on
their blueprints.
