At home I found a "electronics for musicians" book, where the
preparation of such an magnetic disk is described. A thick (5 mm) alu
disk was required, and a magnetic tape was glued to the circumference.
Then a primitive tape recorder head electronic was described.
Now, it is pretty hard to diy a alu disk with suitable precision.
Maybe you can use a very old, very thick hard disk for this purpose.
However, I don't think that it's worth the pain, it is easier to use
a clean modern digital delay and add low fi effects afterwards or
before. You don't need a fancy grungelizer for this, just samples of
tape noise, a good EQ for bandwith reduction and some resonance and
some soft distortion.
That'll do the job ,I think.
Ok, if you intend to slow down or speed up the disk, there are some delays
on the market that allow this, too. If nothing helps, a diy delta modulation
delay line may do the job, it was discussed some weeks ago.
The Formant II book also contains a delta modulation delay line, though it might
be difficult to get the shift register chips today.
