hookup wire

My thoughts are that unless there's a contrary space or aesthetics consideration, heavier gauge wire couldn't possibly be worse than lighter gauge wire. It's probably overkill though in a pot application. If the wire's gonna flex alot, maybe it's a good solution. As for tinning, I *always* tin my stripped wire first if it's not tinned already. It's a real problem if you need to desolder or if the wire just fits in the hole (in which case you risk getting a nasty frayed mess and you gotta start over). However, I think pre-tinned wire can be a little stiff.
I wish I had a nickel for every lamp cord I butchered to make some hokey project as a kid.

Subject: hookup wire
Does anyone have a reason why I shouldn't use stranded copper wire (ac
wire, split into two separate wires) to hook up pots, switches, etc.? I
think the standard to use would be about 24 gauge tinned, stranded
wire. The ac wire is I think 18 gauge and not tinned. Is there a
strong preference for the tinned wire?
just wondering,
Jeff
