AW: envelope follower

Right.

At the weekend I found that this was proposed loong ago,
in EN #32, caused a lot of discussion back then, and was prooved
false in EN#34.

BUT:
Very much later (don't know the EN#), the same circuit was found
to be a very good front end for a *frequency* follower, because
it concentrates the energy of an input signal at its low harmonics!
Surely worth a few experiments!
