A friend of mine use to work in the computer industry installing mainframes
and other large installations about ten or so years ago. They were
installing a system from a certain large Japanese manufacturer which was
also tied into a telecommunications system. But that's not important to this
story. In the team there were the Australian contingent, some Americans and
some Canadians. As well as a whole load of Japanese engineers. Of course the
Australians, American's and Canadians were swearing line troupers. "Fuck
this" and "Fuck That" At the slightest provocation. They might drop a screw
or something. "Fuck that fucking thing." Before the installation was up, one
of the Japanese engineer's came over to one of the Australians and asked.
"What does this term 'fuck' mean?" They all looked around at each other and
the guy said. "It means to Connect!" And made the Finger through the hole
gesture. Everyone laughed, including the Japanese guys and that was that.
A few weeks later the operating manuals arrived. What they didn't know was
that the Japanese guy who asked what "Fuck" meant was responsible for
writing up the manuals. Now the Japanese at the time were trying to make
their english manuals sound as fluent as possible. So printed on the first
page inside the cover of these nicely bound manuals, in very large bold type
were the words.
"Important. BEFORE YOU FUCK YOUR MACHINE."
And just to make things worse, Thousands of these manuals were distributed
world wide before anyone picked it up. Just goes to show. Never Trust an
Ozzy. Actually I think there's a lesson in there somewhere for you BJ. :)
