Get a good soldering iron and use 63/37 solder, it doesn't 'run' as much
as 60/40 and solidifies faster. This is better for most DIY projects IMHO,
I bought a pound of it a few months ago and couldn't be happier. Some
solder wick or 'solder sucker' are a good cheap alternative to fancy
desoldering equipment.
