I just finished building the adv-snare and adv-bass drums, and can tell
you that it's a piece of cake. I think the only problem I encountered was
the transistors were switched around (reversed) from the placement diagram
they provided. Just remember to go from the instructions that they provide
for you, *not* the old article. In both kits I put together, small but
possibly important changes were made from the old kit. (as might be
expected from a 15 year old design)

You have to build your own panels, which is easy if you have a big drill
press (I can't see doing it with a hand drill.. I guess it could be done)
but could be a pain if you're lacking in tools.

I haven't had a chance to test them, but as soon as I get my paia midi->cv
kit I'll be set. (supposedly 'in the mail' by this friday with my
fatman..) I'll post a short review if there's any interest.

On another note, Paia has discontinued a little kit that I was hoping to
build.. as i remember it's sort of a midi mini-patchbay that adds a couple
midi ins and outs to your setup. No zoning or anything fancy. Is there
anybody else that makes such a kit, or are there plans somewhere? It
sounds like a pretty simple thing to build, and I don't want to drop a wad
on building it. It was in their 96 winter catalog, but I think they axed
it in the 97 one, which I don't have.

Right now I'm busy breadboarding a little noisemaking device based around
the SN76477 that JJ Fox was kind enough to provide. It looks pretty
promising..

take care,
Andrew
