The insignia is a large G with a small "s" on the bottom. It is not General
Instrument, SGS, Signetics, Silicon General, Siliconix, Synertec, etc, etc.
I figured it out I think though.... the 741 opamps in the Buchla are marked
N5741, so dropping off the N5 part leaves us with 556, an opamp I've seen
before from this era, so I'm inclined to try Ric's prose below-
"It's probably the 556 opamp that Bernie (wanker) Hutchins had latched onto
in
about 1975 or so. He'd seen it as a better quality opamp than the 307 and
741.
He later moved up to the 13741; LF351; etc. qualities."
I tried an LF351 and it works great!
