HI, all you Fellow Synth-Nuts!
According to the Midwest Audio Products Parts Info. site, the 5556
op-amp was
better at reproducing high frequencies, and thus used in pre-JFET/Bi-FET
days, where frequency response was more critical. If my ever-failing memory
still serves me, I believe the Treble Booster project in Craig Anderton's Elec
tronic Projects for Musicians book used the 5556...I could be wrong...(??)
Anyway, I KNOW that I've seen it in several E-mu ANALOG(ue) designs (back in
the early 80's, the University of Texas Electronic Music Studio had a
$500,000 E-mu Analog system{!!}, and I COULDN'T resist peeking... ;->), so
Dave Rossum must've known Something, right?
Don't know what, exactly, would substitute...but you Should be safe with
a Bi-FET (TL08x or TL07x types are easy to find), or...the Inimitable NE5532
/ 5534! If someone out htere knows better, Please let us know. THANKS in
advance!
In Analog(ue) Extacy,
Dave Garfield
