Ethernet'ed MIDI and all that

Hi!
For those of you have missed it:
On Analogue Heaven have a discussion occured over the last days about
putting Ethernet, IP, IrDa or whatever into synths, effects and other
devices. This debate has gotten some interest from many parties but
does not well fit into the AH scope. Debating the computer network
properties, routers, OSes etc isn't really very much analogue synths
is it?
The goal if this discussion is (in my mind) to figure out a much more
rigid, faster and flexible alternative to MIDI for both real time and
non real time control over various devices.
Anyway, so. In order to have this debate moved of AH I now ask
electronica and Synth-DIY if this discussion could possibly be held on
either or both on these lists. If neither of the lists would like to
hosts this traffic and debate please let it be known and we have to
think of something else. If this becomes a long discussion I think an
alternative discussion forum needs to be created but I think it is a
bit into the future.
I would be more than happy to forward previous mails if so requested.
Cheers,
Magnus
