removing the knobs from my Roland SH-2? (It needs a clean, and I really
need to get those knobs off!) The slider-caps are fine, it's just the

Years ago I purchased (from Yamaha service dept.) a knob puller that looks
like a miniature wonder bar (small pry bar type device for pulling nails and
generally prying on things). This works really well as far as gett ing the
right pressure at the right angle. If for some reason the knobs are really
stuck on the shafts it is possible to damage the pots even when applying the
force in the exact direction. This is a rare occurance and you can probably
torque on them until they come loose without pulling out the shafts. I've
only had that happen once or twice. Without a prying device such as the descr
ibed knob puller, try wrapping the edge of a T-shirt or towell underneath the
knob and pull on the material to apply pressure. Rock the knob from side to
side a little while torquing. You should be able to work them loose without
any pot or finger damage.
