TREAD CAREFULLY. All the usual warnings about playing with the mains supply
are relevant here.
The box is either the power supply for the synth or an interference filter.
If the cables coming out of the box look very similar to those going on ,
it's most likely a filter. These remove any spikes and RF noise that come
down the mains supply, and any that the synth generates itself!
You should be able to pick one up reasonably easily; they're widely used.
Check out your local electronics suppliers, or try the computer stores.
If the box is the actual power supply, you'll need to find out what voltages
it generated and what current capacity it had. If they're 5V, 12V etc you
should be able to replace it fairly easily with an encapsulated supply from
someone like RS components. Otherwise you could try Yamaha themselves, and
see if they still have any spares.
Once again: BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU STICK YOUR SCREWDRIVERS! Being thrown
against the wall by large electric shocks is NOT pleasant.
Hope that helps
