The best I can think of is to declare the port as normal mono-directional
in the PC's BIOS.
I had trouble with a MusicQuest Note 1+ and the Opcode MIDI translator PC
as well until I changed the BIOS setting. This happened both on a portable
computer and my current desktop PC.

Hmm, opcode has been very knowledgeable and helpfull with these problems.
