I've seen both silicon base "sealant" type material and
casting resin used for potting circuit boards. There are
a few things to consider about the material -
- corrosiveness (some major electronic companies stuff this one up!)
- ease of pouring
- conductivity (insulating electroncially, conducting thermally)
Check with a resin supplier to see if they have a material commonly used
by other companies for it.
As for repotting transformers, I had one done, and had it revarnished
by a company that made transformers. Whatever the material was, it required
baking to harden.
